Port Day Guide St. Maarten
How a St. Maarten port day actually works — docking, all-aboard, tender delays, and how much time a massage session needs. Written for cruise passengers who want to plan the window properly before booking anything ashore.

A St. Maarten port day gives you roughly six to ten hours ashore, depending on the ship and the itinerary. That sounds generous until you account for the two things that reliably eat into it: getting off the ship, and the return buffer you need before all-aboard.
This guide covers the timing fundamentals. If you want to book an adult massage during your port stop, the cruise ship massage page has the service details. If you just want to understand the window, read on.
Plan against all-aboard, not departure
This is the single most important thing on this page. All-aboard is typically 30 minutes before the ship leaves. Your usable shore time runs from when you actually step off the ship to all-aboard — not to departure.
If your ship departs at 5:00 PM, all-aboard is usually 4:30 PM. Every plan you make should end at 4:30, not 5:00. Ships do not wait for late passengers, and missing the departure is an expensive mistake.
What eats into the window
Here is what actually comes off your available shore time, in order:
- Disembarkation: 15 to 30 minutes from the ship being cleared to actually being off and through the terminal. Larger ships take longer.
- Tender time (if applicable): ships that anchor offshore add up to 30 minutes each way. Most ships dock directly in Philipsburg, but high-traffic days can force tendering.
- Terminal walk: the Philipsburg terminal is large. Allow 5 to 10 minutes from the ship's gangway to the terminal exit.
- Travel to your destination: about 20 minutes each way if you are going anywhere outside the immediate terminal area.
- Return buffer: always give yourself 30 minutes of slack before all-aboard. Traffic, tender queues and terminal security all eat into it faster than people expect.
Doing the math on a port day
Take your all-aboard time and subtract each item above. What remains is your usable shore time. Worked example for a ship departing at 5:00 PM:
- All-aboard: 4:30 PM
- Minus 30-minute return buffer: usable until 4:00 PM
- Minus 20-minute travel back: leave destination by 3:40 PM
- Minus 20-minute travel out: arrive at destination by 3:20 PM at the latest
- Minus 30 minutes off the ship and through the terminal: ashore around 1:30 PM if you left promptly
That gives roughly two hours at the destination. Enough for a 60-minute session with buffer, or a 90-minute session if the ship docks earlier.
How much time a massage session needs
For a mobile adult massage delivered near the Philipsburg terminal, plan:
| Session | Duration | Shore time needed |
|---|---|---|
| Sensual Massage Express — solo | 45 min | About 2 hours |
| Sensual Massage — solo | 60 min | About 2 hours 30 min |
| Naturist Massage — solo | 60 min | About 2 hours 30 min |
| Sensual Couples — mobile | 90 min | About 3 hours |
All figures include the round-trip travel and a 30-minute return buffer. These are conservative — they assume worst-case disembarkation and terminal queues.
When your port window is short
If your ship is only in port for a few hours, most services ashore are not going to fit — not just massage. The 45-minute express session is the format designed specifically for tight windows: about 2 hours of shore time from disembark to all-aboard.
If your usable window is tighter than that, we will tell you honestly rather than book a session that puts your departure at risk.
Checking your ship's schedule
The Port St. Maarten cruise schedule publishes expected arrivals and departures. It updates as ship schedules shift. Check it before you book anything time-sensitive ashore.
Port day FAQ
What time should I plan against on a St. Maarten port day?
Plan against all-aboard, not departure. All-aboard is usually 30 minutes before the ship leaves. Your usable shore time runs from when you actually step off the ship to all-aboard — not to departure.
How long does disembarking take in St. Maarten?
Fifteen to thirty minutes from the ship being cleared to actually being off and through the terminal. The Philipsburg cruise terminal is large — allow another 5 to 10 minutes to reach the exit.
Does the ship tender in St. Maarten?
Usually no. Most ships dock directly at the Philipsburg terminal. Occasionally, on high-traffic days or for certain berths, a ship anchors offshore and tenders passengers in — that adds up to 30 minutes each way.
How much shore time does a massage session need?
A 45-minute express session needs about 2 hours of shore time. A 60-minute session needs about 2 hours 30 minutes. A 90-minute couples session needs about 3 hours. All figures include travel and a 30-minute return buffer.
What if my port window is short?
The 45-minute express session is designed for short windows — about 2 hours of shore time from disembark to all-aboard. If your window is tighter than that, message us and we will confirm honestly whether a session fits.
What happens if my ship docks late or leaves early?
